Dee has asked: I took my 6 month old son to his Child Health Nurse - TopicsExpress

Dee has asked: I took my 6 month old son to his Child Health Nurse developmental check and she was horrified that he is still waking twice nightly for feeds; once around 1am, and the second around 4.30am. We bottlefeed due to many medical issues (me). She said I should only offer water at night and hell stop waking up, and that I need to force a bottle into him after each solids feed so that he still gets his quota of milk for the 24 hour period, just not overnight. She also said that he needs to eat less solids per meal (and therefore drink a full bottle too). He is a very TALL boy, off the chart, but sitting on 50th percentile for weight. The thing is, is that he has set his own routine, we demand feed/sleep. He is drinking 180-210ml bottles 5-6 times a day (including overnights) and 2 big solids meals. My partner is very tall and slim, with a super fast metabolim and I think our son just has the same traits. She also recommended using crying it out now - as when hes standing, hell rattle the cot bars???!!! Does this advice I was given seem sound? I was pretty happy with the way things were travelling; I thought it was normal for babies to wake during the night??? - I still do!! I just feel completely undermined as a parent after this appointment, as we have tried to take a gentler approach with our parenting.
