Deepavali Project 2014 ala Project Wear-the-Half-Saree-for-the-next-7-years: reuse, revive and rewear my pavadai dhavanis (half-sarees). i recently rearranged my closet (sort of) and found that the pavadai dhavanis are in very good condition plus i havent outgrown the length of the pavadai (long skirt) because i havent grown any taller. but of course blouses have looong been outgrown and they were rather badly sewn anyway. also, the extremely plain looking dhavani cloth needs to be done away with if im gonna give the pavadai dhavani costume a fresh and more appealing look. which means that i need to sew new and cool blouses and find nice matching modern-looking dhavani cloths to go along. so heres what i need your input on: i know where to tailor awesome blouses so thats taken care of but where would be the best places to shop at if i am looking for unique and a variety of fabric/dhavani cloth? Arab street is a great option if im looking for something different, but my concern is that the fabric there would not really go with the Indian silk that my pavadais (skirts that are part of the half-saree costume) are made of. i guess i could try all the different saree shops in tekka, but would love some recommendations and alternatives too. suggestions and thoughts, guys? #yesthisisnotgoingtobecheap #lesigh
