Dees Blog I know its been such a long time since I blogged but its been hectic and finding 5 mins seem impossible some days. But Im now flat on my back for the next few weeks after yet another operation so I will have plenty of time to chat. I suppose I best catch you guys up with whats been happening at SGAR. Lots of adoptions have taken place We ended up taking in 6 baby kittens found at Central Waste at Kurri. Thank goodness the boys noticed movement just as they put gravel on a pile of concrete. So the boys dug out the 6 kittens (approx 2 weeks old as their eyes were still closed) and bathed them. Unfortunately mum wasnt found at the time so you guessed it, every 2-3 hours I had to bottle feed the little devils. Knowing that mum was a good mum as the kittens were plump little things I knew she would be going crazy. The beautiful guys at Central Waste ended up coming over to collect our trap. They set it up where the kittens were in the hope she would go back looking for her. At 6am the next morning they rang to say they had caught a cat but wasnt sure if it was mum. Don went over to collect and success one torti cat with massive nipples. Yes yes yes!!! Problem 1) Mum is feral and wants to eat me Problem 2) Once she sniffed her kittens and sensed that I had been feeding them and holding them, she didnt want them anymore. (Sighs) Determined not to give up I took her bed out and laid towels down in her cage. I didnt feed the kittens their morning formula so I knew they were hungry. Lets just say the pitter patter of feet sniffing full nipples was no match for snooty mum. They went in for the attack and mum didnt know what hit her. AND thats all it took to reunite mum and babies. As mum is feral she hisses, bites and scratches when you go near her. Well too bad for her, we make a point of patting and stroking her every time we walk past the cage. We have such an improvement in her, we can now pick her up to move her whilst we clean her cage. She still hisses and tries to get away but thats about it. Slowly and surely we will get there and plus we always talk and pat her and the kittens so they dont take her reservations on. We have named mum Mercy. So thats one thing we have been doing. This weekend we are at Masters Rutherford doing our fundraising BBQ, so please come say hello and buy a sausage sandwich. Unfortunately I wont be there as Im in hospital but the rest of the gang will be. Stay cool and stay safe Dee
