Defense mechanism 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (ERV) But the Lord is faithful. He will give you strength and protect you from the Evil One. Meditation To protect itself from aggressors, the horned lizard uses some unique defense mechanisms. When threatened by a large predator, it’ll first hiss and swell its body with air. If that doesn’t work, it’ll then flatten its body into a type of shield and tip it up toward the attacker. As a last resort, the lizard’s eyelids will suddenly swell shut, and a hair-thin stream of blood will shoot from a tiny opening on the animal’s forehead. Once the predator is repelled, the creature’s eyelids will return to normal size and the lizard will go about its business. Like the horned lizard, when we feel we have to defend ourselves, anything can happen. Yet when we feel threatened, God wants us to entrust ourselves to Him as our strength and shield. Today’s verse reminds you He is faithful to guard us from attacks from even the devil himself, the enemy of our soul. Are temptations or trials putting you on the defensive? Perhaps you’re facing persecution in some way for your faith? Whatever it is, call upon the Lord, and watch Him rise up against your every foe. Prayer God, I find peace and joy from the fact You are my protector. Defend me against all attacks, and please be a shield to all those who are being persecuted across the world. Amen.
