Define irony: My mother-in-law tells me that I should get my priorities straight because Im 40 years old and living without a job. But my brother-in-law lives with his parents and hes 43 and doesnt have a job. Just works around the house and does the regular odd job for money. (Just like me with the Salvation Army.) My mother sends me $25 in Wal-Mart gift cards and gives me the third degree about...what else? PRIORITIES. Again, she rails on me for not having a job--even though I told her I volunteer once a year at the Salvation Army--doing bell ringing--because there are no jobs for people like me out there. Employers dont hire the chronically unemployed (isnt job discrimination great?) or college graduates who have too much education or skills. In this hostile work environment, neither party is going to get the job that they so desperately want, but because of greed and money, the majority simply wont. So my priorities--at the moment--is simple survival. Thats all Im concerned with at this point. I cant change the employment picture at this time because of whats going on. Ive already done my bit for king and country on that front, and all thats left is the waiting. But I must point out that neither my MIL nor my mother even *has* a job, both being on Social Security, so I dont see where the problem is. We do what we can to survive. Its not grand or glorious, but I left my priorities behind 20 years ago when I decided that working part-time or full-time for minimum-wage was good enough. Now, Im just waiting to get back on the horse and starting over again.
