Dehradun, 28 October, 2014: We will have to adopt modern techniques to save farming. It is important to use good quality seeds. While inaugurating the Krishak Mahotsav 2014, the Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that to ensure development of the farmers, the state government is focusing on three aspects which are availability of high quality seeds, cheaper techniques and to get the right price for the produce. In order to make farming beneficial, atleast 80 percent farmers in plains and 33 percent farmers in hills must be provided with modern seeds. To provide a market to fruits produced in the state, orders have been passed to include 10 percent fruit content in local liquor. The CM has given an aim to the the agriculture department to register atleast 100 farmers’ seeds at every block. The process of issuing modern seeds must be simplified. A few farmers must be registered as nursery producers. Productions of plants must be encouraged as business. Responsible officers must be made nodal officers in farmer oriented festivals and celebrations. Officials from other departments must also participate. There is a need to promote mechanical farming. If the need is felt, there should be an increase in subsidy. The CM said that in comparison to other states, Uttarakhand is getting more subsidies in farming equipment and other areas. The state government has understood the problems being faced by sugarcane farmers. 90 percent of sugarcane balance has been paid. Use of better quality seeds in sugarcane, rice and vegetables must be encouraged. The government has taken a lot of decisions for conservative farming. The government will provide assistance improving old poly houses. Pensions for farmers have also been introduced. ‘Humara Pedh Humara Dhan’ scheme has also been introduced for fodder and fruits producing trees. Improvement is required for running ‘Mandis’. Fruit markets will be developed. Efforts will have to be made to protect farms from wild animals. Schemes for lunch have been introduced for women and elder citizens. Agriculture Minister Harish Rawat said that there has bee a deficit of 50 thousand hectare in agricultural land. The state government has received a price for farming. He stated that the results are good but the government wants to achieve more. Adequate subsidy is being provided in power triller, tubewell and tractors. Panchayat Farming centers have also been strengthened. The Krishi Mahotsav 2014 will be organised between 28th October and 7th November in all Panchayats of the state. The gathering was addressed by MLA Doiwala Heera Singh Bisht and Prem Chand Aggarwal.
