Dehydration and heat stroke are very real concerns for dogs and their owners. Know the systems of heat stroke (red gums and tongue, staggering or suddenly collapsing, elevated body temperature >103 degrees, foaming at mouth or vomiting, severe panting). Cool your dog down as quickly as possible but do not use ice, use towels soaked in cool water on the groin, head and neck and foot pads to bring down the body temperature and seek medical assistance if needed. Avoid exercising your pup in the heat of the day and provide a cool environment and plenty of water for your dog.
