DelDOT Traffic Alert-Immediate Release Bridge Inspection and Surface Repairs to the I-95 Bridge over the Brandywine River Will Require Northbound and Southbound Lane Closures Wilmington - The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that their bridge and maintenance crews will be inspecting the bridge and making surface repairs to the deck of the I-95 Bridge over the Brandywine River between Route 52/Kennett Pike/Pennsylvania Avenue and U.S. Route 202 beginning at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3 until 5 a.m. on Thursday, September 4. This activity will require the right and center lanes to be closed northbound; however, at least one northbound traffic lane will remain open at all times. On Tuesday, September 9, beginning at 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, southbound right and center lanes will be closed on I-95. At all times, one southbound traffic lane will remain open to motorists. Variable message boards are posted to alert motorists of the upcoming lane closures. Last winter’s harsh weather and increased traffic due to the closure of I-495 increased the severity of potholes in the bridge pavement requiring an expedited repair. The bridge structure is structurally safe, according to DelDOT staff involved with designing, constructing and maintaining the 1,734 bridges in the State’s inventory.
