Delegates from Namibia, South Africa and Mauritius are meeting at Swakopmund to review the National Qualifications Framework. The review will among others, play a big role in creating relevance between the number of qualifications attained and the skills needed in the labour market to achieve Vision 2030. In 2006, the Namibia Occupational Skills Assessment Survey found that some vacancies were hard to fill due to the unavailability of required qualifications or skills. Moreover, it revealed that workers skills and education were not adequate for the job market Namibia is, thus, reviewing the current National Qualifications Framework to make sure that when students graduate, they attain valuable skills that meet the standards and further fill the needed occupations in the labour market Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of Education, Alfred Ilukena, indicated that reviewing the framework would also eliminate bogus institutions that sell certificates, diplomas, degrees and other qualifications. The workshop ends on Wednesday.
