It has grown rapidly as the potential to make money has pre-empted consideration of the entire county and all citizens. Some people still know little of it due to lack of information to the general public. Some are calling to slow the process, gather information, and establish parameters so mining occurs in a manner that will mesh with the land’s aesthetic beauty, minimally impact citizen’s desired lifestyle, preserve our resources (other than sand), and protect the health and welfare of all residents. County representatives have expressed clear concerns that little regard was given to the industry’s cumulative overall effect on the human condition in our county. County board members also questioned why our Health Department and other potentially helpful advisory resources were not involved or consulted, as the industry’s impact was imminent. On Monday, August 19, there will be an opportunity for Trempealeau County to take a pause from confusion, division, lack of information, and conflicting information as the county Health Department and its board will recommend a moratorium on frac sand mining to address the multiple issues regarding it. Please voice support for our county health representatives’ recommendation. Call your local district supervisor to register support for the moratorium or visit the Trempealeau County government website and e-mail support to the Health Department so this industry can be managed with the greater good in mind. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The County Board of Supervisors will meet on August 19, Monday, at 7:00p.m. in the County Board Room, Trempealeau County Courthouse. The resolution for a frac sand moratorium will be presented to the County Board for a vote. Please call or write your local district Supervisor and encourage them to support the moratorium. To obtain their name, phone number or address contact, Clerk of Court Office, 715-538-2311 ext.201. ATTEND the County Board Meeting. COME TOGETHER FOR THE COMMON GOOD and THE FUTURE OF TREMPEALEAU COUNTY! Mary Lee Hegnauer
