Delhi: Expelled AAP legislator Binny begins hunger strike, asks L-G to act against Bharti HT Correspondent, Hindustan Times New Delhi, January 27, 2014 Vinod Kumar Binny, who was expelled from the Aam Aadmi Party, on Monday met Delhi lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung and sought action against law minister Somnath Bharti before starting a sit-in at Jantar Mantar. Binny, who is an MLA from Lakshmi Nagar, also claimed the decision to expel him was taken to gag other “dissatisfied” party MLAs. We demanded that action be taken in Somnath-African woman case. The law minister assaulted and misbehaved with African women during the midnight raid. The LG has assured me that law is equal for everyone and let law take its course, he told reporters after meeting the LG. Binny later started his dharna against the AAP government at Jantar Mantar. His supporters were wearing black caps lettered anjaan aadmi (unware man) and shouting slogans against the government. Carrying the national flag, a bunch of people wearing India Against Corruption caps also joined him. Pankaj Kumar Gupta, a Binny supporter, said “becoming an AAP member means you don’t have a chance to speak up”. Tina Sharma, a former BJP member who had joined the AAP recently, shared stage with Binny at Jantar Mantar. Several NGOs, such All India Bhrashtachar Virodhi Morch, have pledged support for Binny’s protest. Asked about Binnys claims that some other MLAs were disgruntled with the party, Kejriwal said, Who is here to save the government, we are here to work for the people. Accusing the Delhi government of mocking constitutional bodies like the womens commission, Binny said the AAP wants that its government falls as they now want to save themselves from all those false promises which they had made. But I will not let them run away, Binny said, adding he has not received any letter from AAP and got to know about his expulsion only from the media. Lashing out at the AAP government, he said, The party which was formed to fight corruption and had called Sheila Dikshit and other leaders corrupt has not even initiated a probe against them. Delhi has broken its record in regard to cases of violence against women, and still women commando force promised by AAP has not been formed. They are playing with the lives of sisters and daughters. The AAP’s disciplinary committee expelled Binny on Sunday night, hours before his planned fast in protest against the party. The committee — set up after Binny went public with complaints about the Delhi government’s style of functioning and its deviation from the promised agenda — decided to terminate his primary membership. On January 15, the Laxmi Nagar MLA had said, There is a lot of difference between what we promised and the way these are fulfilled. Refuting the allegations, Kejriwal had said Binny had come to him for a ministerial post and recently, a ticket for the Lok Sabha elections
