Delhi High Court: While disposing off a writ petition where the issue raised was whether the habit of peeing in public by Indian men could be curtailed if not prohibited in totality by affixing photographs of deities on the walls of buildings etc, the Court, showing it’s inability to solve the menace, stated that it cannot make a man walk out of his house with his zip locked and this problem needs to be solved somewhere else. In this case the residents of buildings and Group Housing Complex came forward with the question whether the Indian habit of relieving pressure on the bladder by unzipping and peeing on the first wall seen by the person, could be curtailed by affixing photographs of deities on the walls. The Court said that the residents hoped that man being the greatest creation of the God, would not dare his privies in front of his lord and would not urinate on road. However, inspite of these measures there was photographic evidence which showed that people could still be seen urinating on those walls as if they are blatantly relieved by virtually peeing on the photographs of their Gods and also at places where graffitti had been written that “look here a dog and a donkey is peeing”. Realising its inability to issue directions to the residents so as to prevent them from putting up photographs of Gods on the walls of their house or housing complex, the Court said that it cannot issue a direction to the residents for removing such photographs [Manoj Sharma v. Govt. of NCT Delhi, W.P.(C) 1969/2014, order given on 26 March, 2014]
