Delhi invite, Nov 7: Karachi-based urban-philosopher, Arif Hasan will deliver the Himal Southasian annual lecture, Between the People and the Polis, at 6.30 pm on November 7, 2014, at the India International Centre (Auditorium), New Delhi. Between the People and the Polis will address the major changes that are taking place in the urban areas of Southasia as mega-cities throughout the region explode in size. The informal sector that provides for the livelihood and transportation needs of the urban underclass is being attacked by officialdom, even as the middle-class becomes wealthier. Developers and investors are determining the shape and form of cities. Amidst these trends, the disparities between wealthy localities and low-income settlements are accelerating. Arif Hasan will further discuss alternative paths for urban development. Arif Hasan is an award-winning architect, urban planner and social researcher.
