Delicious French Wine... 5-7 tonight... Kermit Lynch was raised in San Luis Obispo, but his name has become synonymous with French and Italian wines. In 1972, with a $5,000 loan and maybe a bit of gumption, this writer/musician opened Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant with thirty-five cases of wine stacked on the floor. Attracted by the Old World wine cultures of Europe, Kermit became a retailer, distributor, and national importer for authentic wines that express their terroir. Much like his close friends, the late food writer Richard Olney and Chez Panisses founder Alice Waters, Kermits influence has been enduring. He has had so much success shining the spotlight on small, artisan producers that he has won two James Beard awards and was knighted by the French government with their prestigious Legion dHonneur. Julie from Volio Vino will be here to tell you about the wines and to answer questions. Domaine du Salvard Cheverny 2013- France- From the Loiure Valley, France-85% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Chardonnay. Crisp and elegant notes of lime zest, lemongrass and citrus on the nose, with touches of herbs adding to the complexity. Young apple and citrus show through and linger on the air. The fruit and minerality balances perfectly win this easy-drinking wine that finishes well. * Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais 2012- France-The Dupeuble Beaujolais towers majestically over every other red on the market today yet retains the quaffable légèreté we demand from this monumental appellation. At the same time, how can one ignore its eyeball-riveting color, its super concentrated body engorged with blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, boysenberries, cinnamon, cherry pit, violets, petunias, red currants, black currants and graham crackers? There is there, one might say, there. Multi-layered layers of sublime simplicity, a blood-boiling aftertaste, this is a palate hummer. * Kermit Lynch Cypress Cuvee Cotes du Rhone 2011- France- Delicious and versatile, it overflows with spice and smokey aromas. Loaded with character, and sports great structure. Blackberry and black cherry dominate this medium-body and delicious old fashioned Cotes du Rhone. It pairs with just about anything. Mostly Grenache, with Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault and Mourvedre. * Domaine de Fontsainte Corbieres Rouge 2011- France- 60% Carignan, 30% Grenache Noir. 10% Syrah- The Laboucarié family has provided us with consistently outstanding Corbières for three decades. This boldly flavored red is bottled unfiltered, with an outrageous blaze of dark berries, black currants, and réglisse. * *These wines are 10% off the night of the tasting.
