. ¤ Delightful Words ¤ Memory Text: " I am the rose of Sharon, And the lily of the valleys." [Song of Solomon 2:1]. "rose." Probably the crocus. "lily." The "lilies" of the Song (vv.1-2,16; 4:5; 5:13; 6:2-3; 7:2) are probably lotus blossoms. The woman is not modestly describing herself as an ordinary flower of the field; rather, she expresses confident awareness of her blossoming beauty, comparing herself with the two flowers that epitomize beauty in the symbolism of the Bible (see Is.35:1-2). 1. The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; 2. It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, Even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, The excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, The excellency of our God. "35:1-2." Another shift in subject matter bring a vision of the joy of salvation. The use of several terms expressing joy is remarkable: "be glad," "rejoice," "blossom as the rose," "blossom abundantly," "rejoice, even with joy and singing. " (vv.1-2).
