Delivering remarks at one of the first summits dedicated exclusively to the rights, honor, and equality of women of the Islamic faith and in Muslim-majority communities. Edited to accommodate the 20-minute Facebook limit. My remarks center on the challenges and obstacles faced by women in many parts of the Muslim-majority world - whether rooted in prevalent patriarchal cultures, or in the misuse of religion for the empowerment of one gender over another. May this conference as well as other initiatives be among the many necessary catalysts for local and global change.
