Delta Is For Jonathan—Uduaghan Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has reaffirmed the commitment of Delta State towards re-electing President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office in 2015. Governor Uduaghan made the declaration in Asaba yesterday when the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Muazu commissioned an ultra modern party Secretariat in Asaba and also presented flags to PDP chairmanship candidates for the October 25 local government election in the state. Dr. Uduaghan assured the PDP national chairman that Delta was strongly behind President Jonathan’s administration and was in full support of the National Executive Council’s (NEC) decision to adopt him as the party’s sole candidate. “Delta is behind you; we are solidly behind you. We will not get tired in supporting you as you support Mr. President as agreed by the National Executive Council that we have only one presidential candidate. We will not be tired in supporting the candidate”, he said. He told the national chairman that PDP was very strong in Delta State, noting, “we believe the strength of the PDP at the national level depends on the states and we in Delta State are committed to strengthening the PDP”. Muazu on his part, commended the governor for building a strong party in the state, assuring the people that with PDP remaining in power, their future was secured. According to the PDP Chairman, the magnificent secretariat was an evident demonstration and commitment of the government and people of Delta State towards the success of the PDP. “PDP is the only political party that can enhance your today and secure your future”, Alhaji Muazu said, adding, “I congratulate Governor Uduaghan, Chairman, Nwaoboshi and all those who contributed to the building of this secretariat, it is a sign of your love and commitment to the PDP. “We know that Delta is PDP and PDP is Delta, the two are inseparable”, reiterating, “today is a very significant day in the life of the PDP in Delta State”. Alhaji Muazu, who also presented PDP flags to the Chairmanship candidates of the party in the forthcoming local government election in the state, expressed confidence in the ability of the party to win in the elections. “By the grace of God we will win 100 per cent in the local government elections”, he said. Chief Nwaoboshi in a welcome address, said, “Mr. National Chairman, we dare to state unequivocally, that Delta State PDP family is one of the most cohesive, proactive, united and ever ready to win any election in PDP states in Nigeria because of the all-inclusive leadership philosophy engineered by His Excellency, Dr. Eweta Uduaghan (CON). “This office complex is made up of two floors of four wings, it has 14 office suites of three rooms each, it has additional 16 single rooms, with 24 toilet conveniences for males and females”. The secretariat, he stressed, “has an ‘amphi theater’ or conference room that can comfortably seat 2,000 people; it has a big two bedroom security post with in-built kitchen facilities and a detached, additional 12 toilet conveniences”, he said, adding, “this office is fully furnished with air conditioners, television sets and an 100 KVA generating set installed to serve the complex”. Meanwhile, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has attributed the achievements of his administration, which has earned him recognition from several quarters, including national newspapers awards, to the support and cooperation from people of the State. Governor Uduaghan, who spoke in Abuja on Tuesday after receiving the Leadership Newspaper 2013 Governor of the Year Award, explained that the unity of purpose and support of the people provided the enabling environment for the successes his administration has recorded. “I thank God once more for this award, which I am dedicating to every hardworking Deltan”, the Governor said, adding, “Whatever we have set out to achieve today can only be achieved if we all as Deltans put up a right attitude and the right frame of mind to achieve our goal, which is ‘Delta Beyond Oil’. It would be recalled that Dr. Uduaghan was the 2013 Man of The Year of the Sun Newspaper, Vanguard Newspaper Man of the year 2013, among others. Governor Uduaghan said he was humbled to be receiving award with former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd) who bagged the Leadership Person of the Year award. According to the Governor, “I am happy to stand here with General Yakubu Gowon, who as Head of State, I was one of those drafted to stand by the roadside to wait for him while he was passing and waved at him. “I have told this story before. I am happy to be here with you. I congratulate you for this honour and also congratulate all the other recipients and I thank everyone that has come here today to celebrate with us”. Gen. Gowon, at the occasion, urged aspirants for political office to stop character assassination, stressing that he believed in a united and progressive Nigeria. “As politicians, what I’m going to request you to do is that we have to guard against always trying to condemn ourselves in such a manner that the outside world thinks that we are not good. “We must really think of dealing or addressing policies and not attack individuals”, the former Head of State said, adding that he dreams of a Nigeria where the youths “can have every facility to educate themselves so that they can make their own contributions to the greatness of this country”. The publisher of Vanguard Newspaper, Mr. Sam Amuka, who was Chairman of the occasion, urged civil servants to be committed to their job rather than be self-seeking while discharging their duties. Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano were among those that received awards. The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina bagged Public Officer of the Year award.
