Delta has found her perfect forever home with Mum Toyah and her forever bestie Chloe. Delta came to us a very broken and scared little soul in June last year from a breeding establishment. When she arrived she wouldnt leave her bed and would neither eat nor drink. Toyah offered to foster Delta as Chloe her cavi had helped with many of the previous girls that had came to us scared and timid. Initially Delta had to be given water by a syringe just to keep her hydrated. Slowly by slowly, with Toyahs unwavering patience and tlc and Chloes calming canine presence, Delta started to eat and drink on her own. It was going to be a long journey but she would get there - and she did. Mum Toyah has now earned her failed foster carer title and were all thrilled to bits. Here is Toyahs beautiful update on her precious little poppet. Hi Team at Noahs Bark. I would like to thank you for bestowing on me the honored title “Failed Foster Carer”. I always said I would be in trouble if a foster were a Black and Tan Cavalier. So not only did you give me one you also let me name her, I was doomed before I had even collected her!! Enter Delta, the cutest little Black and Tan cav, approx. 4.5 years old. When she first arrived like most that had arrived before her, her eyes were dead, there was no cavi twinkle to be seen, it was like she had given up on life. I have been fostering for about 4 years and have seen a few fosters like her. You know these ones need just a little extra love to remind them that life is worth living. The first few days are always the toughest, everything is new and scary. They are sore from surgery and normally have a variety of other ailments that need to be treated. But with a little TLC they slowly start to blossom and learn what life as a dog should be like – Chloe helps out here. As a very spoilt little dog, its not unusual for her to be less than an arm length away from me at all times. Chloe helps teach them about cuddles, how to use a doggy door, how to avoid cats although they too give each and every foster a crash course in how they are the superior species. Its been an eventful 6 months on the outside for Delta, she had only been with me about 2 weeks before my bully cat gave her a lesson in how sharp cat claws are and how soft eyes are. Then there was the month I was on holiday and she had a bout of very bad gastro, which saw me driving back and forth across the city in the middle of the night and her being hospitalized for a few days for fluids. My friends, family and work colleagues would ask if I had “cracked yet”, even Caroline would ask, “have you made up your mind?”, the answer was always “no she is still up for adoption”, with a variety of excuses like” if I adopt her I wont be able to continue fostering”. I think the moment I finally cracked was when my mum asked if she was “ still a foster fur grandchild or a real fur grandchild yet?” . After a lot of thinking and playing the “what if “game. I came to the conclusion that it would be more detrimental to her development if she was to be re-homed ( secretly I think I would be a mess if I had had to give her up) . She has bonded to me just as tightly as Chloe has. In any situation she feels uncomfortable she looks to either me or Chloe for reassurance, even as I write this, she has her head in my lap, looking at me with those eyes who have finally gained their twinkle. So I have finally cracked, earned the title all foster carers think about when we take on a new charge – “will this one crack us?”. It was made official on the 17th December - 6 months and one day after she first arrived. To Delta – there have been many fosters before you, all who I have loved and who all have gone on to their new families with the note that if it didn’t work out they would always be welcomed back with open arms. You were different; you worked your way into my heart like none has before. From your barking to be given your daily treat in the morning if I am too slow in leaving for work, to your excited puppy face when I get home and you try to copy Chloe and jump up on the back of the couch. To the snuggles we have on the couch and in bed you have wiggled your way into my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for choosing me to be your new mum and for giving me the chance to show you the life you deserve. Big hugs and kisses, Your furever Mummy - Toyah
