Deltona library plans Career and Small Business Assistance Week Residents looking for jobs or hoping to expand their businesses can get some pointers at the Deltona Regional Library during Career and Small Business Assistance Week, July 15 to 19. Upcoming free events include: “Open for Business” workshop 2 to 2:45 p.m. Monday, July 15 Jerry Mayes, economic development manager for the City of Deltona, will explain what it takes to start and run a successful business in Deltona. Topics will include local business regulations, start-up services available from the city, and local organizations such as the Business Assistance Center that host chamber workshop events. ReferenceUSA workshop 3 to 4 p.m. Monday July 15 Get your resume in the right hands for the job you want. ReferenceUSA, a database available through the Volusia County Public Library system, provides information on more than 14 million employers. Bill Carlson, a Reference USA representative, will explain how to use the database to research careers, search for jobs, network, and negotiate salary and benefits. He’ll also offer tips on searching by location, business type and sales volume. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 386-789-7207, ext. 21011. Career assessment consultations 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18 Jonel Persinger, program director for the Volusia Literacy Council, will conduct free, one-on-one consultations for career assessment testing and mentoring. This program is designed for recent high school graduates and those seeking a career change. Startup Quest workshop 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 Lou Paris will offer information about the Center for Business Excellence’s free Startup Quest mentoring program, which is designed for new business owners. During the 10-week program, participants divide into competing teams led by local business community mentors. Their goal is to develop a business plan and pitch it to real-life investors. Light refreshments will be served. This workshop is co-sponsored by the Friends of Deltona Library. Reservations are required only for the ReferenceUSA workshop. The library, 2150 Eustace Ave., is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
