Demand Action from the National Executive Now Last nights - TopicsExpress

Demand Action from the National Executive Now Last nights Victorian Administrative Committee decision to refer the Upper House preselections to the Federal Executive was unwarranted, irresponsible and indefensible. Justifications of it on the grounds that there was no time for local plebiscites to be conducted prior to Christmas are bullshit. That seemingly no contingency plans for ballots were in place reflects poorly on the party administration. If time for December ballots has run out, the proper course is for them to be postponed until the New Year. The real motive for depriving local members of their voting rights is naked factional self interest and opportunism, with the Right and Left factions combining to divvy up the available seats between them. Administrative Committee members who supported the decision should hang their heads in shame. The ball is now in the Federal Executives court. Its up to the Executive to ensure that the preselections are referred back to Victoria where they properly belong. Also to Bill Shorten and Daniel Andrews, in their respective capacities as our federal and state parliamentary leaders, to ensure thats it’s made to happen. Let’s in our capacity as individual party members make clear our demand for the referral back, via messages to the Executive at [email protected] And make your protest plain at the launch of a new partner in the party reform and renewal struggle, Open Labor, at the City of Melbourne Bowling Club in the Flagstaff Gardens, this Sunday, 1 December, from 3 to 6pm.
