Demanding immediate repairs of Nehru Boys Hostel, NSF stages demonstration Newspoint Bureau Jammu Tawi, November 23 Demanding immediate repairs and renovation of entire Nehru Boys Hostel of Jammu University, National Secular Forum (NSF) today staged demonstration against Works Department of University. Around two dozen National Secular Forum (NSF) activists assembled in front of Jammu University Works department and started demonstration, amid raising slogans against Works department for their failure to do needful. Addressing media persons, National Secular Forum (NSF) University Unit President Qayoom Malik said that despite regular complaints to Jammu University Works department for repairs and renovation of rooms of Nehru Boys Hostel, but the department has failed to act over the pleas of scholars and students. Qayoom Malik informed that for the last six months they have been asking varsity Works department for repairs of lights, bathroom leakages and other renovation works but except assurances, students have not nothing from the department. Criticising Varsity authorities, NSF University President Qayoom Malik further said that every year JU management spent lakhs of rupees for renovation of various electrical equipments and other works in various hostels of Jammu University but despite that a number of appliances have gone kaput and no action has been taken to replace the same. It is far from imagination and surprising that every year why the electric gadgets gone defunct, leakages in the bathroom pipes developed, it also points towards a fact that sub standard material is used by the contractors, who was allotted work, Malik alleged. He further claimed that two years back Nehru Boys Hostel had renovated and all electric wirings, lights and other gadgets were replaced but shockingly after the lapse of only one year all the items which were used by the contractor became defunct while the wiring has also got damaged and the pipes of bathrooms have developed leakages. National Secular Forum urged Jammu University acting Vice- Chancellor Prof R D Sharma to direct Works department to immediately start repairing works in the hostel and also initiate an inquiry against the contractor, who had executed repair and renovation works. Forum members further demanded stern action against the culprits, who had plundered the students funds.Among those who were present in the Protest included, Ajaz Shah, Vikram Madhyal, Shohab, JV Singh, Zulfi Singh, Amit Sanotra, Varun Kumar and others.
