Dementia Researchers from around the globe are meeting in Copenhagen this week to discuss the latest research updates as part of the Alzheimers Association International Conference. #AAIC2014 We will be posting a daily update to keep you in the loop of what’s being discussed. Day 1 Snapshot: The theme of the day 1 seemed to be looking into less invasive and more cost effective ways to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, and the area seems quite exciting with lots of novel approaches. Also great to see Australia up there with the best of them, including CSIRO Scientist Dr Shaun Frost, leading the way in eye tests and Alzheimer’s disease. Topics discussed: • A decreased ability to identify odours might indicate the development of cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease • Examinations of the eye could indicate the build-up of beta-amyloid, a protein associated with Alzheimer’s, in the brain, according to the results of four research trials. #DementiaNews will be sending out a special edition this Friday with a more thorough digest of the Conference.
