President Obama’s mention of the 1953 U.S.-backed coup in Iran during his U.N. speech “was very significant” says filmmaker Narges Bajoghl. “He is trying to come out and say that we want to engage with Iran and understand the mutual respect between the two countries and understand the history of adverse involvement in the country.” She adds: “He is coming out and saying that we understand what we have done and we don’t want to do that now. Whether Iranians will take it that way, I don’t know.”
