Democracy day Suresh Chand wants September 17 the first post coup election day to be declared Democracy Day to remind Fijians what democracy really is (FT 27/08). Chand needs reminding that democracy does not come about just by having an election. It is indeed an important beginning but a beginning all the same. Many more things need to happen to give democracy its true meaning. Time will tell if that has happened in Fiji after the election.
