Democracy is somewhat a myth particularly in the US, UK, Europe - TopicsExpress

Democracy is somewhat a myth particularly in the US, UK, Europe and a lesser extent Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. There is no doubt powerful individuals have bought themselves political favor and influence. The power of the financial elite has enabled them to benefit in ways that would have never been allowed in a true democracy. The same elites who profited from the boom and caused the financial crisis, got bailed out by the taxpayer were given immunity from prosecution and continue to commit a series of criminal frauds for their financial advantage using the Money provided from QE and ZIRP policies. In a true democracy would these criminals still be running what amounts to criminal enterprises that are receiving government assistance to rob the middle classes of their pensions and savings? Would government policies only benefit the rich? Would criminal executives still have their multi million dollar jobs and would the revolving door policies exist between government and Wall Street? Would politicians in a true democracy get away with spying on its citizens, killing innocent women and children using targeted drone strikes? Would the press be defending terror Tuesday and Obamas disposition lists. Would the government be actively targeting personal liberty and freedom? No we do not live in a democracy or a democratic republic. theguardian/books/2013/nov/08/trouble-with-democracy-david-runciman
