Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not - THOMAS JEFFERSON It is unfortunate to see public offices being given to those who are not ready to serve. Service should be the main reason for both elected and appointed positions. I have move around and see that majority of those occupying either political offices or are employ in corporate world are there for themselves and their families alone. Anything outside the aforementioned are not important to them. Just imagine, I went to delivered a letter in one of those political office and I met two beautiful ladies. I told them my mission and they say I should bring it out. So I gave out the letter with a photocopy for acknowledgement. I gave her the photocopy and both of them took it inside another block. Since I took a drop and the vehicle was waiting for me, I then stepped inside where they were and behold one was writing on a piece of paper Original copy received by me with date. So I asked them to hurry up and they pleaded with me to wait for few minutes. So one left the room and the other was still struggling to write Original copy received by me. After struggling for minutes, I noticed that she missed spellings even while copying from someone. I was wondering what wouldve happen if 10 of such letters were given to her for acknowledgement. You can see why we dont have optimum production in the civil service and governmental department. While well qualified people are roaming the street of Nigeria without work, our civil service and political offices are occupied by dunces and illiterates who has nothing to do in those places but for man know man basis. We must for once try to give opportunity to the right people who are ready and willing to give their best for the growth and progress of our society. We must always put the interest of the larger society against clans, families and parochial interest. That is the only way our country, our state, our local government, our wards, out units and the society will grow.
