Democratic Alliance media advisory DA Youth protest Higher Education Budget Speech 21 July 2014 Release: Immediate Tomorrow, 22 July 2014, DA Youth Chairperson and Shadow Deputy Minister for Higher Education, Yusuf Cassim, will lead a picket outside Parliament to protest the Higher Education Budget Speech by Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande. Despite our constant calls for an increase in the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) budget, the Minister will again announce no new steps to ensure everyone has access to the NSFAS. Thousands of qualifying students who applied for a National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) loan in the previous financial year had to be turned away because Minister Blade Nzimande failed to make enough money available for qualifying students. The budget allocation is simply too low. South Africa can afford to give all qualifying matrics access to funding for studies if we get our priorities right. The DA Youth calls for free higher education for poor qualifying matriculants. There will be opportunities for photographs and interviews.
