Democratic Alliance press statement by Lindiwe Mazibuko MP Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance Nkandla: DA welcomes Speaker’s intention to establish ad hoc committee The DA welcomes the Speaker of the National Assembly’s full consideration and action on the DA’s request for the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate the Nkandla scandal. I requested the establishment of such a committee, in terms of Section 89 of the Constitution, immediately after the release of the Public Protector’s Report on 19 March 2014. We have however received no official correspondence from Mr Sisulu and we will provide full comment only once the establishment of this inquiry is confirmed. This will also clarify the exact mandate of the committee. I trust that the Speaker appreciates the urgency of this matter and will provide clarity as to the establishment of the committee as soon as possible. I am also pleased that other political parties represented in Parliament are supportive of the DA’s efforts to ensure accountability for all those responsible for this wrong doing, including President Zuma. In the face of President Zuma’s refusal to apologise to the nation, accept responsibility for this wrong doing, and provide Parliament with all information, as requested by the Public Protector; the National Assembly must now use its powers to force answers. The DA will continue to do everything possible to make sure that this happens. youtube/watch?v=fPV5lYIJGv4
