Democratic empowerment is about handing back control over our lives and the processes we are a part of back to the people. That doesnt mean we always get our way: but our collective way. Its just false to say that we have more autonomy under neoliberal institutions than under democratic socialist institutions, for the latter are designed precisely so to increase our agency. The process of their generation is one of collective, and hence individual, agency. Their reason for being is democratic empowerment: social development, social justice, and ethical living. We need to deliberate and we need to take action on a range of issues in a range of settings to complete the transition to a just, sustainable, prosperous, and resilient civilisation. Stand up! Speak out! Take charge! We can do it :)
