Denver awards $4.9 million for business, housing and neighborhood development projects Federal community development funds to support 40 projects supporting low- and moderate-income households The Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) has issued award letters to 33 organizations slated to collectively receive $4.9 million in federal grant funding in 2015. OED reviewed proposals earlier this year from organizations that responded to a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for economic development and housing projects. Additionally, 14 previously awarded neighborhood development public service projects were selected to receive additional funds in 2015. The organizations awarded funding can be found by accessing the website for Denver’s Office of Economic Development. https://denvergov.org/oed/DenverOfficeofEconomicDevelopment/Newsroom/tabid/435773/mid/488087/newsid488087/9419/Default.aspx The awarded projects will be funded through a variety of federal community development programs, including the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS programs. NOFA applications were evaluated and scored by OED staff, other city agency staff and community members. Community members were chosen based on their knowledge and experience in the program areas of housing development and economic/business development. Awardees were selected based on their ability to achieve measurable outcomes supporting Mayor Hancock’s priorities of jobs, children/education and safety net, as well as OED’s JumpStart strategy. Evaluation criteria also scored each applicant’s project plan, organizational capacity, financial capacity and prior performance when applicable. The Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) is dedicated to advancing economic prosperity for the City of Denver, its businesses, neighborhoods and residents. Working with a wide variety of community partners, OED operates to create a local environment that stimulates balanced growth through job creation, business assistance, housing options, neighborhood redevelopment and the development of a skilled workforce.
