Deon Smith, director of Oklahoma Blood Institute, visited me - TopicsExpress

Deon Smith, director of Oklahoma Blood Institute, visited me personally in hospital this afternoon to help answer the many questions that arose after the events of this morning. He assured me that the Oklahoma Blood Institute will meet Allies need for platelets. He stated they are friendly with Arkansas and Texas Blood Institutes and will coordinate with them when Oklahomas platelet supply is low. We now have the doctors order on file with OBI. The next step is to identify people who match Allie. In order to get tested to determine your blood type or if you are CMV -, call OBI for an appointment. It takes typically 24-48 hours to get the results. If you determine you have a negative blood type and you are CMV -, we would love to add your name to our list. Once I have list compiled over the next week or so, I have the name of the person who will coordinate appointments for the platelets to be donated. It is important for the donations to be coordinated because the platelets only last for 5 days. We would never want them to go to waste. The list will ensure that we always have someone to contact if this need arises again in the future. This process is totally separate from the program to give Allie credit for blood and platelets. You can be any blood type and donate for her to receive credit. All that is needed for the credit program is her name, and that she is at St. Francis Hospital. The credit program provides financial reimbursement for blood processing fees that are not covered by insurance. Thank you again for the quick response from everyone this morning. We appreciated all of your support.
