Department of Defense Schools Take National Honors ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 24, 2013 – Three Department of Defense Education Activity schools were recognized by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan as 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Seoul Middle School in Korea, Lakenheath Middle School in England, and Kingsolver Elementary School at Fort Campbell, Ky., all received the honor. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program annually recognizes approximately 300 public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students are performing at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in student achievement levels. All three DoDEA schools will be recognized as “Exemplary High Performing” schools. Adrian B. Talley, DoDEA’s principal deputy director and associate director for education, praised the commitment and hard work of all members of the school communities named as DoDEA’s 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools. DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for Department of Defense family members that would otherwise not have access to a high-quality public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, the United States, Guam, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to local education activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families. defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=120849
