Depression is no joke. Those of us who have never had it should count ourselves among the lucky. Its not just a suck it up situation, and if you approach it as such, you are part of what perpetuates the social stigma. I dont generally feel much at all upon the passing of a celebrity, but the death of Robin Williams makes me very sad. Fame and fortune do not immunize you against pain, and I cant help but wonder how much of a burden it became to him to have to continue to be the wild and zany guy on talk shows that people came to expect. Maybe he just wanted to be a regular guy, but the riptide of expectations kept pulling him in and forcing him to be that guy. Total speculation on my part, but Ive been wondering that for a while....
