Depression squeezes your mind, like a python does the lungs. It - TopicsExpress

Depression squeezes your mind, like a python does the lungs. It wraps around and applies negative pressure until the victim stops struggling against it and gives in to the crushing power. Depression plagues millions, from mild inexplicable sadness to suicidal thoughts. The death of Robin Williams highlights that a happy, witty exterior may not reflect a calm, happy interior. In fact, many of the worlds greatest leaders and genius minds have suffered from bouts of deep depression. Churchill called it his black dog. Many people who struggle with it often do so in silence, battling alone. They are often productive people who give of themselves and contribute much to the world. It is a real condition, one in which the forces of hell like to attach to and poison an otherwise beautiful mind. I know. Years ago while attending the University of Maryland, I came dangerously close to taking my own life. This bright, energetic, optimistic dragon slayer you all know has a black dog of her own she has to keep at bay. I too mourn the loss of Robin Williams ... and the hundreds of others who took their lives yesterday fighting the very same demons. Loneliness, addiction, guilt, shame, trauma, stress, desperation, need to please, drive to perform ... and a host of others can combine together in toxic tonic. Keep your compassion alert. Renew your mind daily, hourly if need be. Say kind words. Demonstrate mercy.
