Deputies Attempt to Save Mans Life On Friday, January 9th, Deputy Jonathan Gaydos responded to Pine Street and Yaupon Street in Santa Rosa Beach, with regard to a DeFuniak Springs man who needed medical assistance. Deputy Gaydos, along with another individual, alternated between CPR and chest compressions in an effort to get air into the victims lungs. Deputies Don Fernandez and Pat Colbert also arrived, at which time an automated external defibrillator (AED) was deployed. The three deputies worked together by giving chest compressions, CPR and applying the leads from the AED. One shock was delivered to the patient and Deputy Fernandez performed two more cycles of compressions following an AED prompt. South Walton Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and took over CPR, and transported the patient to Sacred Heart Hospital. Sadly, despite the rescue efforts, the patient did not make it. Supervisor Sergeant Mike Davis stated, The way the three of you came together and worked as one unit in an attempt to save the gentleman’s life is applauded.
