Der Klassiker : Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund : Match Preview, Lineups, Prediction and TV Details It’s time for the German version of El-Classico !! Popularly known as Der Klassiker, the Bayern-Dortmund rivalry is one of the best and intense fixtures in modern football. The game will be hosted by Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund Date : April 12, 2014 4:30 PM GMT Venue : Allianz-Arena, München Bayern Munich have already won the Bundesliga this season but Borussia Dortmund are still competing for the second place with arch rivals Schalke. So, this fixture is more important for Jurgen Klopp than Pep Guardiola. Bayern Munich are 20 points ahead of Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Borussia Dortmund have 58 points while Schalke are three points behind them. Schalke are facing Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday and are expected to get some points. In that case, the fight for the second place will be fierce. So, Dortmund need to show another valiant performance like the one with Real Madrid and get some points from the fixture if they are to widen their gap with the Blues. Borussia Dortmund showed a courageous performance to beat Real Madrid 2-0 in the second leg of Champions league quaterfinals but failed to advance to the semifinals on aggregate. They were already beaten 3-0 by Madrid in the Santiago Bernabeu. So, despite the 2-0 win, they were out as the aggregate score was 3-2 in favour of the Spanish Gaints. Marco Reus produced another brilliant display and scored two goals to keep Madrid in pressure throughout the game. Their last league game was against Wolfsburg which they won 2-1. They were a goal down in the game with a goal from Ivica Olic in the 34th minute. Dortmund were very poor in the first half. But they produced a great comeback after the break as goals from Robert Lewandowski in the 51st minte and Marco Reus in the 77th minute sealed all three points for Dortmund. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, lost 1-0 to Augsburg in their last Bundesliga fixture. This was their first loss after October 2012 , ending their record winning streak of 52 games. But Pep Guardiola had fielded a weak side in the game giving Bundesliga debuts to three youngsters - Mitchell Weiser, Ylli Sallahi and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg. Bayern Munich bounced back from the defeat with an impressive 3-1 win over Manchester United. Arjen Robben put in a great show as he scored a brilliant solo goal and set up Thomas Muller for another. Mario Mandzukic was also on the scorecard as he equalised Evra’s goal with a great header off Ribery’s cross. Bundesliga is no more important for the Bavarians and they are fully focusing on the Champions league at the moment but they will be looking forward to winning the clash against Dortmund as it is the matter of pride and prestige for them. The reverse fixture ended in a 3-0 win for the Bavarians with goals form Mario Gotze, Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller. This was the fist goal for Mario Gotze against his old club after his 37 million move to Munich. Before the start of the season, Borussia Dortmund defeated Bayern Munich 4-2 to win the German Super Cup. The two sides also met in the All-German final at Wembly in the 2012-13 Champions league which the Bavarians won 2-1. Borussia Dortmund have been suffering from injuries this season. Majority of their first team players are out injured. Marcel Schmelzer, Ilkay Gundogan, Sven Bender, Jakub “Kuba” Błaszczykowski and Nevan Subotic will not feature in the game. Klopp gave chances to Oliver Kirch and Milos Jojic in the Champions league game with Real Madrid. They produced excellent displays in the night and coach Jurgen Klopp might field them again. Sokratis Papastathopoulos was not included in the squad against Real Madrid and he was replaced by Manuel Friedrich. Thus it is expected that the Greek will feature in the game. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, have small injury concerns. Xherdan Shaqiri and Thiago Alcantara are out injured while Holger Badstuder is out with a long-term injury. He hasn’t feature for the Bavarians for a year. He is said to be on light training and is expected to make a return near the end of the season. Pierre Emile Hojbjerg showed a convincing display during the Augsburg game and he is expected to make a start. Yilli Sallahi may also replace David Alaba from the starting line-up as Pep Guardiola is trying to keep his first-team fit for the Champions league. Javi Martinez and Bastian Schweinsteiger didn’t feature against Manchester United due to suspension. Thus they are expected to be in the game.
