Derby glory for Weigh Inn B Week 4 of the Thurso & District Pool League threw up the first Weigh Inn derby of the season as Weigh Inn B battled it out against Weigh Inn A. Mick Dawson was in great form early on as he defeated Ian Disbury with two well taken finishes, to give Weigh Inn B the early advantage. The next two games were drawn before the two captains faced off against each other. It would be Weigh Inn A captain Mark Alexander who won this dual over his counterpart Robbie MacGregor to level up the match at 4-4. The match continued to go back and forth as the next four frames were shared to make it 6-6 with three to play. Weigh Inn B edged ahead again when Robbie Powell was unlucky to see the black go down with two of his colours remaining, much to John Kays relief. Willie MacKay seen his black rattle in the pocket in the very next frame and Alexander Elder took full advantage to clear up and secure the win for Weigh Inn B. Alexander grabbed the consolation last frame in a black ball decider against Dawson to make the final score 8-7. League leaders Top Joes A entertained the Park as they looked to build on their good start to the season. It was all one way traffic at the start as the hosts led 4-0 courtesy of wins for Stevie Gray and Andy MacGregor. Ben Leonard got Park on the scoreboard as he drew with Freddy Trueman but captain Alan MacKenzie won against his opposite number Shaun Trueman to make it 7-1. With all appearing lost for the Park up stepped Dave Innes and he proceeded to win the next three frames and haul them back into the match at 7-4 down. However, Gordie Manson put a stop to the comeback as he defeated Leonard in the next frame to clinch victory for Top Joes A, who ran out 10-5 victors in the end. Out in Halkirk, the undefeated champions played host to Ormlie Club. After drawing the first game, Halkirk went on to take complete control of the match with wins for Keith Foubister, Stevie Elder and Gary Oag making it 7-1. The highlight being a total clearance from Foubister in the third frame of the match. Needing just the one frame for victory, Steve Wylie obliged as he drew with Harvey Cowe to give Halkirk the unassailable 8-2 lead. Ormlie Club to their credit battled until the end and managed to win three of the remaining five frames to make the final score 10-5. Through the first three weeks of the season, Top Joes B have undoubtedly been the unluckiest team in the league and this week seen them face a tough away game against Ashes. Ryan Carter got Ashes off to the perfect start with a win over Ian McBride. The next game was drawn as Neil Jackson became the first player to take a frame off Derek Johnston this season. Dave McGillivray and Scott Shearer then served up a total clearance apiece in their game to make the score 4-2 for the Ashes. George Mehaffey then increased Ashes lead to 6-2 as he beat Gary MacKay. The last game in the first set of singles was drawn before Carter secured victory for Ashes as he defeated MacKay to put them 8-3 ahead. The remaining four frames were shared to leave the final score 10-5. Popeyes were looking to make it three wins out of four when they visited Castletown. This match was tight early on and after the first four games the sides were tied at 4-4. Popeyes then seized the initiative as Adie Forbes won against Steven Munro to give them a 6-4 lead. Munro was up next again for Castletown but it was to be James Forbes who would put Popeyes within touching distance of victory at 7-4. Scott Manson gave the home side hope when be beat Ali Glen, only for Adie Forbes to edge out Lewis Bain to win the match for Popeyes. Jamie Simpson and Joe Wright then rounded off the victory by winning the last two frames for a 10-5 triumph. Finally, Mr Cs hosted the Comm with both teams looking to collect their first win of the season. It was Mr Cs who would take control early on in this match as Michael Cameron and Andy Crosby won the opening two games for a 4-0 advantage. Jordan Youngson then hit back immediately for the Comm as he won against Peter MacAllister. With the next two games being drawn, Mr Cs held a 6-4 lead heading into the all important second set of singles. Comm turned the match on its head as they won the next three frames to move in front for the first time. Scott Youngson, Richard MacDonald and Jordan Youngson doing the honours for the Comm. Cameron put the match into a decider as he won against Davie Bain, then history was made as Robbie Wares was victorious over Asa Sinclair to give Mr Cs their first ever win.
