Derek Hogan began with the Pickering program in 1993 and entered the Foreign Service in 1997. At present, Mr. Hogan serves as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Baku, Azerbaijan. His previous tours include Director of the Office of Nordic and Baltic Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Senior Advisor to President Obamas Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, Chief of the Political Section’s External Relations Unit in U.S. Embassy Moscow, and Chief of the Political and Economic Section in U.S. Embassy Minsk. Mr. Hogan has a graduate degree in International Relations from Princeton University, and an undergraduate degree in Political Science, Philosophy, and Economics from the University of Pittsburgh.
