DerryTrades Unioncouncil statement in relation to the situation in First Source. We are fully committed to supporting the workers of First Source and believe that they have been unfairly treated and suspended without appropriate notice. Our understanding is that there were to be a number of investigatory hearings this week, those have been postponed. There are disputed claims about the actual number who were suspended. There is little wonder this is the case given the hamfisted way First Source have dealt with this. We have taken legal advice and Union solicitors on the following position. ..First Source may require the affected workers to attend an investigatory hearing and at this stage they may or may not allow the workers to be accompanied, legislation allows them to do this. However should any DISCIPLINARY proceedings arise from those meetings and workers are informed that disciplinary meetings will commence, workers at that stage are LEGALLY entitled to be accompanied by an accredited companion or trade union representative. The Unions through Derry Trades Union Council at that stage are prepared to give legal advice to any worker who so wishes it. We invite all of the affected workers and any other worker from First Source to attend a meeting tomorrow night Wednesday 7th January at 8.15pm in the Unison building on Clarendon Street. We will give advice and make preparation and advise of what facilities are available in support of the workers. Thank you Derry Trades Union Council Secretary
