Deryn had a check up today, the first one since before we went away. His consultant commented immediately as we walked in just how great Deryn was looking. She said that is clear that hes put weight on - Deryn said yeah 3 kilos! whilst he grinned at her. The usual questions were asked, how are you feeling? Are you eating more? Do you feel better in your mind? Deryn usually just smiled and says fine to everything. He doesnt really go into too much detail about how hes feeling because when youve been where Deryns been, fine is good :) Whilst Deryn was being examined by Ponny, his consultant, Dr J pointed to get head and whispered to me - hes a million times better in his mind now isnt he? Yes I replied, hes doing so well mentally. His mood has really picked up in the last two months, as has his love for life. Hes so much fun to be around now, cracking jokes, singing, dancing and just being really jovial. Its wonderful to see. No more depression, no more eating issues and no more sickness - its amazing. The only thing we have concerns about are his ankle but we know why that hurts and deryn does have ways to deal with the pain so thats only one thing really that is of concern now and thats his lack of puberty. Dr J has made an appointment to see an entomologists (I believe thats what she said) to deal with his lack of testosterone. Bloods were taken again today and theyre checking the testosterone levels too. It wont take much to switch it all back on and give him the growth spurt and development he has missed. Itll be the perfect time for him to hit the gym - hed be ripped in no time ;) His strength is starting to really come back now, he got up off the floor yesterday without having to get in his hands and knees first, he can do a squat and he doesnt hold the banister when climbing the stairs anymore. So proud of how far hes come in a relatively short time - it was only 7 months ago that he was dying. So everything went well and we dont need to go back until the 14th of August now - happy days. Life is finally more about living and less about hospitals :) I took a pic of the scales at the hospital because I wanted to show everyone how hes done. Before we went to Spain Deryn weighed 31.2kg! So in fact, hes put on 4 kilos ;) Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, the weather is going to be lovely so make the most of it ;)
