Description: cid:[email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media contact: Ruth Ruiz, (714) 765-5060 office, (714) 420-7797 mobile ANAHEIM’S MILITARY BANNER CEREMONY WILL HONOR RESIDENTS CURRENTLY SERVING OUR COUNTRY AND INCLUDE UNVIELING OF OFFICIAL PURPLE HEART CITY SIGN ANAHEIM, CA - (Sept. 26, 2014) The City of Anaheim will honor 12 active military members on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014 at the annual Anaheim Military Banner Ceremony. Additionally, the City will unveil an Official Purple Heart City sign. Earlier this year, Anaheim became the second Orange County city to receive designation as an Official Purple Heart City, yet it will be the first city to unveil a sign. The permanent official Purple Heart City street signs will be located on Lincoln Boulevard between Anaheim Boulevard and Olive Street. The event will take place at George Washington Park beginning at 3 p.m. All are welcome to attend and pay tribute to the brave Anaheim residents currently serving our country and also recognize those that were wounded or struck down in combat. Monday’s guest speakers and program participants will include Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait, Council Member Gail Eastman and Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Lagoski, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The 12 banners introduced on Monday will join the 90 previous honorees that have had their banners displayed throughout the City. The newly introduced banners will honor the following service men and women: Johnny Aleman, Army Alexander Edmonds, Army Justis Esquer, Army Nolan G. Fonseca, Air Force Melissa A. Ford, Air Force Juan Hurtado, Army Matthew Jalandoni, Army Ian A. Murphy, Army Jose R. Ortiz, Jr., Army Ashley M. Ramirez, Army Michael Sharp, Army Wesley E. Ward, Marines George Washington Park is located at 250 E. Cypress Street, Anaheim, CA 92805. The City of Anaheim created the Military Banner program in the fall of 2009 to recognize Anaheim residents currently serving in the military. The Purple Heart is the oldest military decoration still in use and is awarded to individuals wounded or killed in combat by declared enemies of the United States. In order to make Anaheim an Official Purple Heart City, the City worked with the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 752, an organization chartered by Congress to represent the interests of Purple Heart Recipients.
