Design Project Available for Hampshire Students Are you a design student looking to be involved in a concrete project? The Career Options Resource Center is looking for a creative, skilled, and practical student to help us with our lighting re-design. The Project: The Career Options Resource Center is in the midst of reimagining our office space. Our goal is to make our space more cozy and inviting to students, in part by changing the lighting in the front half of our office. The space is currently lit with overhead fluorescents. We envision turning off the fluorescents and instead using a couple of hanging overhead lights, and a few floor or desk lamps, all using warm LED bulbs. We cannot do any rewiring so all lamps must be able to plug into a wall socket. Our Intention: While we could simply buy new lamps, our intention is to do this in a way that is more creative, low-impact, low-budget, and reflective of Hampshire students’ ability to think outside the “box store.” Imagine creative re-use, lamps made of mason jars, etc. You will be credited for your work on a placard in our office. Your role: We are looking for a skilled student to help us design and implement a new lighting design using fabricated, re-purposed, or re-used lamps. You will meet with us to talk about lighting ideas for the space (yours and ours) and together come up with a lighting design plan. Once we have the plan, you will fabricate or find the new lamps – probably 4-6 lamps total. Together we will place and install the lamps, and adjust the design as needed. We hope to finish the project by late January. Skills/Qualifications needed: · Excellent follow-through and ability to do a project on a deadline · Be creative but practical: you must be able to work within our budget and current electrical set-up · Ability to listen, collaborate, and produce something that meets our needs · Detail oriented with a good eye for beautiful design · Practical skills in fabricating lamps OR ideas for re-use that steers away from a thrift-store aesthetic What you get: · CEL-1 credit OR include the project as part of your Div II or III (with faculty consent) · CORC staff will help you include this on your resume · CORC staff will write you a stellar recommendation if you do a great job · Use photos of the finished project in your design portfolio · Recognition in our announcements about the new design, and on the wall in our office Interested?
