Design question: In my house in Jersey, We rarely ever use our dining room any more, but definitely still need it for when we DO have people over for dinner a few times a year. Currently its in what was a large foyer that I converted to a dining room a few years ago, off of the kitchen but also right near front door. Off of my family room (open to kitchen), was a bedroom that I opened up to an L configuration room with a huge bay window and window seat. So here is the question: The dining room area I feel would be better used for a place for seating and a desk (desperately need one!) and our bookcases. The L shaped front room currently has our old entertainment unit (no tv and its going in basement anyway) and thats it. BUT it has the door to the first floor bathroom. It would be great to have that as the dining room but the bathroom door bothers me (15 panel glass frosted door). What are your thoughts? Obviously a bathroom in the dining room is not optimal, but I think we could close the door and not open it when we have a dinner and we have two full baths upstairs (which is where our guests go typically anyway). Thoughts??? These pics are from when we had house for sale a few years back.
