Designed by Winnipeg architect J. D. Atchison and built in 1898 for entrepreneur Alexander McIntyre, the McIntyre Block on Main Street replaced an earlier building on the site that was destroyed by fire. Originally just five storeys, two more floors were added in 1908 (click the MHS link for more photos). The brick building provided office space for many retail and professional companies.
