Desmond update: We were blessed enough to get an early appointment with the dermatologist today! I took the pic below while we were in the exam room--he was so relaxed he needed tummy rubs! Also kept bopping my hand for pets! He is soooooooo drugged! Heres the result of todays exam: We are going to: 1) continue with antibiotic 2) add an anti-viral for possible herpes infection (most cats have herpes in their system) 3) send the previous biopsy samples to a specialist (dermatopathologist) and hope they see something (probably cancer or herpes virus) 4) if they dont see anything and Des does not respond to treatment we will do another biopsy of some healthier tissue (The problem with the first sample was that apparently most of the tissue from the center of the lesion was necrotic when it was taken. That wasnt shared with me earlier. It means that we could have missed something--and I hope so, but I hope not cancer). At this point we really need to figure out what is causing this so we can stop it. Also, Barb has ordered a supplement called Celloquent that is supposed to help with cancer and other immune issues. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions--if you have anything in particular to suggest, please send a private message. We have some things to try. Currently Des is super hungry and chowing down. He spent about 5 1/2 hours on the couch with my hubby while I was working today and the report is that he was either sleeping or purring the whole time. Please continue your prayers! On a totally unrelated note, I watched a man at the specialty center feed his dog grapes until a tech yelled at him (I would have intervened had someone not noticed so quickly). Please do NOT feed GRAPES or RAISINS to your cats or dogs! They are quite toxic and can cause organ failure. We can all use a good reminder of this!
