Desperate to prove effective as a campaign Manager, Governor Amaechi if Rivers State and DG of APC National Campaign kicked off his campaign with a lie; that General Buhari eliminated Maitasine sect and therefore will eliminate Boko Haram, a blatant lie for the following reasons: General Buhari was not president of Nigeria in 1980 when Alhaji Mohammed (mohammadu) Marwa was killed. The President of Nigeria was in 1980 was Alh. Shagari. From June 1979 to July 1980, General Buhari was on official course at the American War College and upon his return, he was GOC of the 4th Infantry Division, Enugu until 1981. The Maitasine Sect continued to instigate religious violence until April, 1985 in Yola under Mai Makaniki. Under Buharis regime, there were riots in Yola which killed over 1000 people and displaced over 30, 000. Some of Marwa and Makaniki may still be found amongst present day Boko Haram and other fundamentalist sects. In 1985 the most prominent outreach leader of the Maitasine Sect, Mai Makaniki, was still at large until his capture in 2004. By September 1985 while Mai Makaniki was still at large after killing thousands of people in Yola, Buhari was under House arrest under the IBB regime. The same judicial impediment which is making it difficult to prosecute Boko Haram actors today, allowed Mai Makaniki to be acquitted at the Court of Appeal, Jos. The Court declared that the evidence against him was circumstantial even though over 1000 people died and the main market in Jimeta was destroyed. If the leader of Maitasine died in 1980 and his protege was captured in 2004 and kept in Yola prison until 2009, how did Buhari curb Yan Tansine when he was only in office from 1983 to August 1985? Culled!!!!
