Despite all the glorious artwork by Michelangelo on the roof and walls of the Sistine Chapel (much smaller than I imagined it), the most famous is of God reaching out to Adam, the fingers not quite touching. There are many ideas of why. One is that the sphere around God is a representation of the human brain. Another is the big mystery of the huge mistake Michelangelo made on that fresco. Can you spot it? Adam has a bellybutton. But if he is the first man, he shouldnt have one. The Sistine Chapel is the one (tourist) place in the Vatican they try to maintain as a spiritual sanctuary. The whole time youre inside there are these men who intermittently go:SHHHHHHHHHHH! and then repeat that no photos (so these are NOT mine) are to be taken.
