Despite its flaws, there are some decent moments in both the acting and story here. I really liked Robert Loggia in this. The dialogue between Peter and the young jailer is really well done. Oddly, the real weak link in this film is the gentleman playing the Savior. Bruce Marchianos smiling Jesus is back. He played the Savior once before in the Gospel of Matthew. Out of all the actors to play the Savior, Marchianos buddy Jesus is very underwhelming and unconvincing. Even in the more dramatic and profound scenes, there are times when his demeanor is almost carefree and whimsical. He delivers some Scriptures in such a diluted manner, he sounds more like a childrens Sunday School teacher than the greatest teacher of all. His portrayal of the Savior at the Last Supper comes across more like a salesman addressing a casual deacons or business meeting than the reverential and profound Savior overseeing the event we witness in the Gospels. But even with this weak link, there are some really good ideas here and I liked this movie. I just wished that a better budget could have been found to make this into the film it really should have been. Better sets, a tighter script (which isnt bad), stronger direction and a few actors replaced and this could have been a classic. A better portrayal of the Savior is a definite must. However, the dialogue and acting of Loggia (as Peter) and Laurence Fuller (Martinian the jailer) certainly makes this film worth a watch.
