Despite its physical size, Philadelphia is basically a small town. - TopicsExpress

Despite its physical size, Philadelphia is basically a small town. Word travels very, very quickly about a lot of things. This reminds of when The All-Star Jazz Trio landed a gig in Greenville, Maine, many years ago. By 5 p.m., he locals knew what the flat-landers, in this case, The All-Stars, had for breakfast. And for lunch. The point here is that some person or people at the Philadelphia Weekly must have been hearing some of the noise that the jazz community has been making about their lack of jazz coverage. Evidence of this is todays issue, which contains small items on the Josh Lawrence/Francois Zayas gig at the Kimmel, the PhoHWEUR event at AIA which features Rhenda Fearrington and Alfie Pollitt (though veteran pianist/composer Pollitt is identified in the item as a jazz vocalist), and though PW identifies Valerie Simpson as smooth jazz, at least the word jazz got in there. Baby steps? Throwing us a bone? Maybe. But a little is better than nothing. Lets see what next week brings.
