Despite my account being £85 in credit British Gas want to up my direct debit by 15%. When I tried to contact them by phone to tell them to shove it I got a message saying they were really busy because of their price increases and it would take 40 minutes to answer my call. Yes, forty. So I sent them an email, and here it is:- I have just attempted to contact your helpline to be advised that my call would be answered in around 40 (forty) minutes. What a joke. Anyway I have been advised that despite my account being in credit by £85 my payments will be increasing from £91 to £104 per month, an increase of around 15%. Please be advised that I will not be authorising this increase and if you attempt to put it through I will contact my bank and ask them to refund it and will also move my account to another supplier. I am happy (as much as possible) paying £91 and I dont see my bill increasing sufficiently to justify your proposed figure, even with your recent mystery price increase. Please acknowledge receipt of this email (hopefully quicker than it takes to answer your phone). I await their response...
